The Most Untrue Statement Ever: RnR is Dead

“There hasn't been any rock&roll made since about 1975....”

This was posted on a guitar forum I frequent. Has there ever been a more untrue statement ever posted on the internet? My goodness. I kinda feel bad for the dude. Think of all the great music he is missing out on (or maybe just wasn’t paying attention to).
The late 1970’s were pretty good. Dylan put out Desire. Pink Floyd hit their stride. And the Stones became relevant again. The punk movement breathed new life in the bloated dinosaur.
Admittedly, the 1980’s were lean years. The synthesizer almost killed RnR. But the Reagan years gave us Joshua Tree, Synchronicity and early REM LPs. The Cure and Violent Femmes pushed the envelope. If you dig, it is there.
The 1990’s were a golden age of RnR. From grunge re-inventing the genre in early part to the sincere brilliance of Radiohead, NIN and Wilco in the latter half. Arguable the best decade for RnR ever. Before coporate radio could ruin everything.
The 2000’s? Has he even seen my list? So much good RnR that I cannot keep up. Just pick up The Black Keys, Aimee Mann, Fleet Foxes or Blitzen Trapper. And that’s just 2008!
RnR is like a mirror: always reflecting the times. It seems a true shame to disregard all that has come to pass.
