Recent Discovery: Dawes

As you may know if you ready this blog, my tastes run towards Americana influenced indie rock. You know, Wilco, Son Volt, Ryan Adams, Drive By Truckers, Avett Brothers, Iron & Wine, etc. The previous posting regarding NIN notwithstanding, I generally need an acoustic guitar and folk flavor to the music I enjoy.
However, the indie scened today is all over the map. With electronic-y stuff like Animal Collective to distortion bands like Vivian Girls, indie rock covers all grounds. That is why I get excited when I discover a band that falls into my wheelhouse, so to speak.
Dawes has been compared to CSNY, The Band, Laural Canyon era music - but a fresh and relevant take on it. After spinning their latest record North Hills, I get where that comparison comes from. But label them whatever you want, I appreciate that Americana feel to the music.
