A few random thoughts…
Obama is White
Since Barack Obama is half white / half black and raised completely by his white mother and grandparents – and since culture and environment are more significant when it comes to providing an individual with an identity then the mere superficial color of skin – then isn’t BO white? In fact, if you base his identity solely on the color of his skin (and neglect culture, etc.) then doesn’t that make you a racist? Or, at the very least, ignorant?
WWJM (Who Would Jesus Marry)?
Jesus said “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” (Mat 22:21). Doesn’t this sound like the first attempt at the principal of Separation of Church and State? Therefore, those people who have religious prejudice against gay marriage would be committing heresy by trying to get the government to adopt their faith-based ideal. Not to mention that this violates fundamental American principals, as well. To recap: Tommy Jefferson and JC both object to those of you in favor of banning gay marriage. It must be especially infuriating to JC because this heresy is done in his name. I can hear him gnashing teeth, can’t you? Let’s face it: if you like governments enforcing religious dogma, I suppose you can pack up and move to Afghanistan. I hear there are lots of jobs in the opium business.
$700 Billion dollar Mulligan
Like most Americans, I have mixed feelings regarding the Big Bailout of 2008. What’s to like? Giving a free pass to rich people for screwing everything up? Destroying capitalism and free market economies? Rewarding people for accepting loans they couldn’t pay? Washington jerks grandstanding and slinging pork? My goodness. On the other hand, I don’t want them bringing me down with them. So what am I supposed to do? Or think? I am really not sure – especially since the bailout didn’t seem to help (yet). I am just thankful I am not retiring soon (Sorry, Boomers; God must be paying you back for your generation of sins).
TV Sucks
Ugghhh… What happened to TV? Do they even bother trying to make good shows anymore? If is wasn’t for CNN, ESPN and adultswim, I’d never watch the darn thing. Maybe it was always bad, I just never realized it. Do yourself a favor: turn off the box and pick up a book (I am reading “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” right now; very entertaining).
Satellite Radio is Awesome
How does one live without satellite radio? Terrestial radio has forsaken jazz, blues, classical, indie rock, bluegrass, folk, alt.country, … you name it. Unless it was recorded by Lynrd Skynrd, then it doesn’t show up on FM. I particularly enjoy finding new bands. Something I did not do at all for a long time – not my fault! Nothing new is ever played on corporate FM radio! At least here in SoCal, anyway…
